I really don’t live near an MMA gym but I want to start getting back in shape so I can get prepare. What workouts should I do at home? Or a weight room? Running? Sit-ups or push-ups? Any suggestions? Thank you
All of the above. The easiest way to fall out of a workout routine is to get bored. So keep up the variety as best as you can and don’t give up.

Ideally swimming would be the best, but running is a close second. Just b/c running only works the legs, and swimming works the whole body. Both are a good cardio workout. Lots of top boxers and MMA fighters swim.
Also, to put it in perspective, I did a small triathalon, and it was a 1/2 mile swim, 13 mile bike and 5 mile run. What does that tell you? Swimming is obviously the hardest and takes the most out of you. So if you can swim alot, you will be in top shape. And when you are fighting in a championship fight in round 5, the man who is in the best shape usually wins!

Simple quick answer would be to do circuit training to get your body a solid base and for that consistency is the key. Focus on multi joint movements like push-ups, pull-ups, squats, cleans, dead-lifts and things like that. You’re going to want to do flexibility and core training also, so you should take part in yoga or pilates (or at least parts of them) while you do your other training. Once you feel yourself up for the challenge, start doing plyometrics and interval training to get explosiveness, and explosive endurance up. Mix and match all of these types of things using the explosive stuff only once or twice a week because it can burn you out. Train like you fight, spend the majority of your time training intensely for short bursts. The long slow runs are good to get rid of lactic acid, but they’re a waste of time as a conditioning tool. You want to train mainly in the glycolytic system (web search it and find out how to train in that zone). The most important thing is to train how you fight, incorporate MMA related movements whenever possible. Proper MMA training takes dedication and balance. A program like P90X might help you get started with a base, but MMA is more hardcore, and you’d have to do other workouts on top of it, but it will give your body the balanced fitness base to start from.

All of them, especially running and swimming.

I think the best training is jogging cause it builds up stamina and helps get you into shape.
